Post-Marathon Weight Loss

A few months ago I posted about marathon expectations versus reality. As a recap, a year and a half ago when I first started training for Paris I genuinely thought this would happen,

But of course, that didn't quite occur,

This past April after finishing my token marathon and vowing never to do such a thing ever again because it sucked away the only two things in my miserable, pathetic existence that give my life any vestige of happiness (lazy Sundays chilling with Boyfriend and booze), I again had a vision of what would happen,

And I was cool with that. Anything, ANYTHING just not another marathon.

But the weirdest thing has happened instead,

That's right. This weekend I put on my jeans and I was like...

And I was confused. How could this be? I was running five hours per week in the month leading up to the marathon and was exercising/running/jogging/stretching/generally being fit and good for a solid 11 months before that.

My first thought was that my trousers were playing some sort of cruel trick as payback for continually spilling coffee and jam on their fragile fabric and wearing them basically every day even though I have plenty of other pairs.

But then I thought a little harder…

I believe the answer may be that I've stopped eating like some sort of hunger-raged Ukrainian weightlifter. For the three months leading up to the marathon I was consuming a giant sized block of Cadbury's Marvellous Creations Jelly Popping Candy Beanies, a bag of Haribo Starmix and a large packet of Doritos every day. In addition to normal food. I didn't lose weight, I didn't gain weight, I just continued to suffer in marathon-training hell, counting down the days until I could enjoy life again.

Moral of the story? Should I ever enter a race again, buy shares in Cadbury, Haribo and Doritos.
